Michelle Weilert grew up in Dallas, Texas, where her childhood was spent making up elaborate stories, acting out all the parts and thinking up lies to tell the teachers when they caught her doing so. She fell in love with the theatre early on and has suffered from this affliction ever since. Her public writing debut, a showcase of two one-acts she wrote, occurred at her high school when she was 17. Seeing her work on stage and hearing the subsequent applause gave her the strength to come out to her parents as a writer. Having been majorly influenced by the Beach Boys song, “California Girls,” she moved to LA, where she remains, still freakishly pale, to this day.

As a college freshman, she was selected to be in a playwriting class with Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Beth Henley. During her time at college, she had four one-acts premiere off-Broadway, in addition to many other local productions. She holds the honor of being the only student at LMU to be named “Playwright of the Year” twice. In May 2009, she graduated college and in June, the dean approached her about coming back to teach for the playwriting program. She returned as an adjunct professor of playwriting the following year, teaching alongside Beth Henley. She also worked as Miss Henley’s personal assistant. She also spends time pretending she is shaping the minds of America’s youth, but she has been repeatedly told this is called “tutoring.”

Her webseries, “Afternoons with Ainsley,” premiered in late 2009 and was a delightful hint of things to come. The sardonic show chronicles the life of 18 year old Bible thumper, Ainsley Everett, and was utilized by schools in New Jersey as a teaching tool for a lesson on satire. The razor sharp wit and subtle manipulation drew a comparison to McCarthy, which left Michelle both proud and mildly horrified. She currently has ten one-act plays under her belt, two full length plays being workshopped, two original TV pilots, and two spec scripts. She also makes really good chocolate chip cookies but doesn’t want to brag about it.
