Michelle Weilert graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a BA in Theatre Arts, emphasis in playwriting. In 2008, she received the honor of “LMU Playwright of the Year.” She is currently working on a full-length play, under the mentorship of Beth Henley, along with several other projects. Her first webseries, Shelly-O, is in post-production and will premiere on this website very soon!

She is the daughter of two amazing parents who go beyond the definition of selfless love, and the sister to two brothers whom she credits with giving her such a great sense of humor about almost everything in life. She was raised in Dallas, TX, and is a southern belle by nature, but enjoys life in sunny LA now.

She first began writing plays her senior year in high school. Her first one-act, written entirely by hand during economics class (sorry Mr. Teacher), has never seen the light of day, but gave her enough of a taste to know she wanted more. That year, she wrote two more one-act plays, which both saw fully staged productions at her high school, Ursuline Academy. She directed “The Last Dance” and oversaw the production of “Hilarity Ensues.” Both plays were highly successful and sold out every showing.

At Loyola Marymount University, Michelle went on to study playwriting in various forms but continued to work with it outside of the school realm as well. Her third show, “Connection,” has opened under various titles (hopefully this one will stick) and had its first run at Jesuit College Preparatory School in January 2007. “Two Can Keep a Secret (If One is Dead)” opened at LMU during the Playwright s Center Stage workshop in March 2007. This play would be the one that changed things for her.

In early 2008, Michelle got a phone call, informing her she had placed among the semi-finalists in the American Globe Theatre’s 15-minute-play festival in New York City. She traveled to New York to see her first show open there, half a block off Broadway, and then the next day she turned 21, which she thinks is pretty magical and maybe even better than any 21st birthday she could have written. In a whirlwind turnaround, she left NY for LA, then for Dallas, where she saw the premiere of “Gate 48B.” She was so happy with the production she entered into a contest and 2 weeks later found out it was moving on to NY as part of the Riant Theatre’s Strawberry One-Act Festival Summer 2008. Then in August, Michelle staged her own play festival in her hometown: Lit From Within’s 1st Annual Play Festival. It had two sold-out shows and gave her a chance to work again with some tremendously talented people from her high school days. Since then, she has completed two more one-acts: “Turtle Love Song: An Epitaph,” and “The Flats: The Real SoCal” (co-written with Barrett Johnston.) She was featured in the Winter 2009 Strawberry One-Act Festival and is scheduled to be seen in the American Globe 15 minute play festival 2009. Her play will be produced under the direction of Orchid Taira.

Michelle is also co-founder of Girls With Glasses Productions, a collaboration with Barrett Johnston, NYU film school grad ’09.

All her works are available for productions. For performance rights, please see info on contact page.
